![]() Probably unnecessary, but it kept me from using the sink during this process. I also covered the sink area with a drop cloth. I covered my lower cabinets with a drop cloth so that I didn’t have any accidents or splatter. It was a pain to remove all of the tape around the sink. In hindsight, I wish I would have just taken the extra time to remove the sink basin. I did not remove my sink so I taped around it very well. Don’t forget to pull out any appliances so you can reach the sides of your counters. Once your counter is ready, be sure to tape any areas that you do not want to get paint on. My old counters didn’t have a super glossy finish and I decided I would just go over them with a quick pass of the sandpaper so I made sure to clean them really well before starting. ![]() The first step is to clear and clean your workspace. ![]() I did use some additional supplies (a $40 B&D hand sander, a nicer angled paint brush, assorted grit sandpaper, drop cloth, and painter’s tape). This is pretty much everything you’ll need. The Spreadstone Mineral Select kit costs about $125 and comes with 1 can of base coat/primer, 2 cans of stone paint, 1 can of top coat, paint tray, a small roller with a roller cover for each layer, small brush, a dust mask, a DVD, and instructions. This is approximately 15 months after painting the cabinets and they are holding up nicely! There are a couple areas that could use some touch up, but overall definitely a great product! I chose the Onyx Fog color for a little contrast. I was worried that I would totally botch the sponge paint so I opted for Spreadstone Mineral Select by DAICH. I went back and forth on buying a sponge-on paint kit that resembles granite or a roll-on stone material. I had a little extra time last weekend and lucky for me I already had supplies on hand to refinish my counters! I did a lot of shopping around before I decided on a product. I painted my cabinets and updated the light fixture over my sink. So, last year I started updating my kitchen on a budget.
